Out in the wide fields of Kansas, there’s a YouTube channel called ‘Farmer Derek’ that’s been getting a lot of attention. What makes it special? Well, it’s all about a farmer named Derek who has some pretty amazing cows.
Derek has been into creative stuff for a while now, and he started sharing his adventures on YouTube back in 2008. His farm is the backdrop for all his videos, and his cows have become famous all over the world.
Now, while many rich countries are moving away from farming, Farmer Derek’s cow videos are actually getting more popular. Some big TV channels from different countries, like the Discovery Channel, have even paid visits to his farm to make videos.
Derek’s message is clear: Kansas farmers are good folks, just like any other family. They eat the same food, and they know how to have a good time while they work.
Recently, Farmer Derek and some of his musical farmer buddies – Alex Young, Michael Dawson, Lucas Hulett, Greg Moose, and Randy Crow – did something pretty cool. They played a beautiful tune for their cows out in the open fields. The cows were like their audience, and the song they picked was Meghan Trainor’s ‘Mother.’
The surprising thing is that it seemed like the cows loved the music! They gathered around the musicians as if they were enjoying a mini-concert right there in the farm.
So, here’s the big question: Do animals really like music? Well, there’s a study by scientists Dr. Adrian North and Liam McKenzie from the University of Leicester that suggests dairy cows produce more milk when they listen to calm and slow songs, like REM’s ‘Everybody Hurts’ and Beethoven’s ‘Pastoral Symphony.’ They gave about 3% more milk each day during the study.
And here’s another interesting tidbit: experts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who understand animal behavior say that animals like music that’s made with sounds and rhythms they’re used to.
So, Farmer Derek and his friends found a way to connect with their cows through music, and it’s heartwarming to see. If you want to see this unique musical performance for yourself, just click the play button below. And don’t forget to share this charming story with your friends and family!
