A phone call urgently summoned the Cape of Good Hope SPCA to rescue a dog trapped beneath a concrete slab on the beach, fighting for its life buried in the sand. Despite the uncertainty of their chances, the rescuers wasted no time and sprang into action, determined to save the poor animal.
Inspector Lee Prins arrived at the location where the dog was last spotted, fully aware that he had limited information to guide his search. With only hope as his guide, Prins began digging, hoping that he was in the right spot and would discover the dog’s whereabouts without delay.
Prins admitted that the rescue was taking longer than anticipated but emphasized the importance of staying calm and focused. He knew that panicking would hinder his ability to assist the dog, who needed him desperately in that moment, according to a press release.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Prins located the dog, who was later named Courage, and hurriedly checked to see if he was alright. Initially motionless, Courage was curled up in a ball, leading Prins to fear that he had arrived too late to save him.
Fortunately, that wasn’t the case. Despite being frightened and believing that no one would come to his rescue, Courage had somehow managed to survive. Prins experienced an immense sense of relief as he pulled Courage out of the sand and ensured his safety.
Without wasting any time, Courage was swiftly taken to the veterinarian for a thorough examination. Although he had endured the traumatic ordeal with minimal physical harm, his time alone had taken its toll. Courage was dirty, malnourished, and required a comprehensive plan from the veterinary team to aid his recovery.
While there is still a long road ahead for Courage’s healing journey, the most crucial aspect is that he is now safe and out of harm’s way.
