A woman on TikTok took the concept of “best friends forever” to a whole new level when she decided to freeze-dry her deceased cat, ensuring they could continue their journey together. Soren High, a clothing designer from Portland, experienced the untimely death of her 16-year-old cat, Lokicat, when it was attacked by a dog she was fostering. Devastated by the loss, High spent $3,200 to preserve her feline companion through freeze-drying.
In a video that quickly went viral, amassing over 6.5 million views, High shared her heartbreaking story. She expressed the profound impact of losing Lokicat, describing it as one of the most difficult losses she had ever faced. The suddenness of the event made it even more challenging to cope with. Determined to honor her beloved cat’s memory, High chose the unconventional method of freeze-drying rather than traditional taxidermy.
High justified her decision by explaining the benefits of freeze-drying in a subsequent video. She emphasized that this preservation technique minimizes damage to the body tissues, ensuring a more accurate representation of the cat’s appearance. According to High, freeze-drying offered the best chance for Lokicat to maintain her true likeness. Additionally, High shared her hopes for the foster dog that caused Lokicat’s demise, stating that animals acting on instinct should not be condemned to death and expressing her wishes for a positive outcome for the dog after it was surrendered to a shelter.
@teapourn Remembering Lokicat the only way she deserved ❤️ having a pet preserved is a personal decision and one that many may never understand. When i got Lokicat as a kitten, I knew this was how i was going to deal with ber death. I knew i never wanted her to be gone, and that I wanted to always have her with me. Her death was sudden, even though she was 16. We never expected this would happen and especially by a dog we had been fostering. This situation broke us into a billion pieces. After finding a home for the dog, we had Loki preserved through @Animal Family Pet with help through donations and raising funds with memorial fabrics and pieces. Her preservation cost nearly $3k and it was worth every Penny. . . #petmemorial #petpreservation #taxidermy #petsoftiktok #freezedriedpets #fypシ #foryou #grief #loss #memorial ♬ Relaxing lofi music(1014185) – Akase
