Jamie Mohr, who defied a mere 10 percent chance of survival after being born weighing only 1lb 8oz, is now a remarkable genius at the tender age of four.
Jamie’s mother received distressing news when doctors informed her that her placenta had stopped functioning at 20 weeks, depriving the baby of vital nutrients needed for growth. Recognizing the grim prognosis, they made the difficult decision to deliver the infant at 28 weeks, despite the slim odds of survival.
“I was advised not to expect him to make it, but he consistently surpassed expectations, and I was able to bring him home 11 weeks after his premature birth,” shared his mother.
Today, this exceptional four-year-old is celebrated as a prodigy, demonstrating an extraordinary aptitude for mathematics in six different languages.
A math prodigy, Jamie can even accurately calculate the total cost of his mother’s groceries down to the very penny.
Lorraine, a 38-year-old senior policy officer from Glasgow, Scotland, proudly shares, “He constantly outsmarts his teachers. Recently, his nursery teacher messaged me, mentioning how he was ‘out-schooling’ her. I’m amazed by his abilities, and I can’t fathom where he gets it from.”
Lorraine first noticed Jamie’s exceptional intelligence shortly before his second birthday. She began testing his skills at home, and within a few weeks, he could count up to 50 and even 100.
On one occasion, while watching a YouTube show, Jamie heard the character counting in French. Surprisingly, when he switched to another program, he effortlessly continued counting in French.
“I couldn’t believe it. To confirm, I tried programs in Spanish and Japanese, and he flawlessly counted in those languages too.”
Now Jamie counts in German and Mandarin, boasting a photographic memory. His remarkable reading ability surpasses his age, displaying hyperlexia—an advanced aptitude for reading and word decoding.
“He’s truly a little miracle, especially considering the initial predictions of severe disability or learning difficulties. I couldn’t be prouder of him. He’s entirely self-taught, but now that I’m aware of his abilities, I actively encourage his learning.”
Jamie’s mathematical prowess rivals that of most ten-year-olds, as he proficiently solves equations and grasps concepts like fractions and percentages. He is scheduled to start primary school later this year, where a specially tailored independent curriculum awaits him.
“Jamie possesses a delightful sense of humor, exceptional articulation, affection, and humility. What astounds me is his unawareness of his extraordinary talents. He had an incredibly challenging start, but he has defied all expectations. The fact that we were even able to deliver him was miraculous, and now discovering his gift for learning? It no longer surprises me what he can do.”
While his mother envisions a future for Jamie in a STEM field, possibly even finding a cure for a dreadful disease, Jamie himself dreams of becoming a pirate when he grows up.
