Growing up, it’s common for kids to have a curiosity about their parents’ belongings. Trying on their clothes, makeup, and accessories becomes an exciting adventure. Recently, a Gen Z content creator named Danielle Wiens, known as @daniellewiens on TikTok, decided to explore her mom’s old wardrobe. Wiens, who often shares fashion-related videos on TikTok, uploaded a clip on June 21, 2023, showcasing her experience, and it quickly gained viral status in the online community.
In her video, Wiens took viewers on a nostalgic journey as she tried on her mom’s vintage outfits, some of which her mom had worn during her own youth. She brought out a vibrant pink prom dress, her mom’s engagement dress, and various other garments. Wiens enthusiastically expressed her excitement, stating, “Okay, I’m gonna try on my mom’s prom dresses from high school. Maybe not all prom. Some of them might just be from high school.”
Each dress she donned demonstrated that certain fashion statements and trends truly withstand the test of time. To enhance the nostalgia factor, Wiens also included old pictures of her mom wearing the dresses in the video, receiving much love from the online audience.
Among the standout pieces was a strapless pink mid-length gown with bow-detailing, purchased from Nordstrom in the late 80s. Wiens couldn’t contain her delight, exclaiming, “Okay, this is so cute!” Another beloved dress was her mom’s black-and-white strapless gown from 1984. However, Wiens encountered a minor setback when she struggled to zip up a mauve-shaded dress due to the dress’s stubborn zipper. Despite this, viewers flooded the video’s comments section with positivity and admiration. “@oneproductaday” wrote, “Damn, these aged well!” while “@cammyporter” exclaimed, “Oh my god, the senior prom dress is beyond.” Wiens even engaged with her audience, responding to a comment about her mom’s hoarding tendencies, revealing her appreciation for her mom’s decision to save these cherished garments for her and her sister.
