A brave grandmother went through a terrifying ordeal when she wrestled a pitbull with her bare hands to protect her two young grandchildren. Rhonda Stickney, a 50-year-old woman from Motley, Minnesota, found herself in a life-or-death situation when her neighbor’s dog lunged at her daughter Tiffani, 27, and her grandchildren Jaxsyen, four, and Keyahra, two. Without a moment’s hesitation, Rhonda stepped in between the aggressive dog and her beloved grandchildren. However, things quickly escalated when the dog dragged her outside and viciously attacked her, leaving her covered in blood.
Despite her injuries, Rhonda’s determination to protect her family didn’t waver. She managed to fight off the pitbull and, covered in blood, drove herself to the hospital. Her face and arms bore the brutal wounds inflicted by the dog. Recounting the terrifying incident, Rhonda revealed, “It grabbed hold of my leg, knocked me down and dragged me out. It was so scary. It went from my leg to my face. My adrenaline was going so bad that I don’t remember feeling anything. I was just so scared.” Her grandchildren witnessed the entire horrifying event, causing them sleepless nights and a fear of playing outside.
Rhonda’s selfless act of bravery didn’t go unnoticed. The police, after seeing images of her injuries, deemed the dog to be dangerous. As a result, the owner was required to microchip the dog and ensure it wore a muzzle whenever it went outside. Rhonda, however, continues to bear the physical and emotional scars of the incident. Despite the possibility of permanent scarring on her chin, eye, arm, and leg, she remains resolute, stating, “I’m just glad it happened to me rather than my grandkids. The dog would have killed them.”
This terrifying encounter has left Rhonda with a newfound apprehension towards dogs, especially pitbulls. She and her family now prefer to avoid unknown dogs to ensure their safety. While the incident has undoubtedly shaken her, her love for her grandchildren remains unwavering, and she will do whatever it takes to protect them from harm.
