11 Months After Adopting a Girl from a Chinese Children’s Home, One Detail in a Photo Prompts Neighbors to Make a Hasty Decision

Children’s homes in China are overflowing with children abandoned by their parents who only want one thing: a loving family.
The conditions in which the children are kept are far from ideal, but the staff at the children’s homes do everything possible to ensure that the children are happy until they are adopted or fostered.

China faces a significant problem of abandoned children whose parents refuse to take care of them for various reasons. Often, the reasons for abandonment include being born out of wedlock or having a disability.

In any case, biological siblings rarely end up in the same children’s home. However, non-biological children often become so close to each other that they seem to be from the same parents.

Dawson and Hannah ended up in one of China’s children’s homes when they were just a few months old. They considered themselves brother and sister despite not being biologically related.

Over time, their bond grew into something very strong, beautiful, and touching.

They were both looked after by the same caregiver who would take them home on weekends so that the children could take a break from the daily life at the children’s home.

But soon came the day when the two children were separated.

Hannah was adopted by a family from the United States of America. The girl realized that she would no longer be able to spend every day with Dawson.

Thus, Hannah found herself in another country while Dawson remained in the children’s home in China.

Andy and Sharon Sykes adopted Hannah and brought her into their family. Hannah now had two older brothers, but she missed Dawson very much.

“They were not biologically related and were so different, but they became very close while being in the same children’s home,” Sharon told CBS in an interview.

Sharon recalls the moment she realized that the children were inseparable.

In every photo sent by the adoption agency, Hannah was depicted with Dawson. They played together, held hands, and spent time together.

Hannah’s new mother felt that she had to find a family for Dawson as well, so she shared Hannah and Dawson’s story on social media.
“I constantly thought about him. This boy touched my heart,” Sharon remembers.

When a friend told Amy Clary about Dawson’s story, which he came across on the internet, Amy decided to meet the Sykes family.
She firmly decided that she wanted to adopt the boy.

Amy made this decision so quickly that her husband, Chris, later joked about it: “I stepped away from her for a minute, maybe two, and when I came back, she told me, ‘We are going to adopt this boy.’ And I said, ‘Okay.'”

The Clary family already had three children, all younger than five, and, as one can imagine, their home was always bustling with life. But the couple felt that they were capable of raising another child.

Amy saw the photos of Dawson and Hannah together and realized that she simply couldn’t do otherwise.

When Dawson’s adoption was officially confirmed, Amy and Sharon decided that the children needed to meet: Hannah and Dawson hadn’t seen each other for several long months.

The children had no idea that they would soon see each other and live nearby, just five minutes apart.

Numerous hugs When three-year-old Dawson got off the plane, his new family was waiting for him at the airport. But they weren’t the only ones – he soon saw his best friend Hannah.

“They couldn’t stop hugging each other. They probably hugged each other 400 times,” recalls Dawson’s mother, Amy.
Thanks to the strong bond between Hannah and Dawson, the Clary and Sykes families also became friends.
