VIDEO: Hero Crossing Guard Risks Life to Save Child from Speeding Car

A crossing guard from Maryland has been called a hero after she put herself in danger to save a child from a speeding car. Cpl. Annette Goodyear of the North East Police Department responded immediately when she saw a car speeding up behind a youngster who was in danger of being run over. She took the hit to protect the child, putting her own health at risk in the process. Luckily, she only got minor injuries.

The love and compassion that exist in the world are shown by stories like Goodyear’s. There are still good people out there who will help us, even if it does not immediately profit them. It gives parents comfort to know that their children are in capable hands when they observe a dedicated and compassionate woman working with children on a daily basis.

One’s response in a crisis situation is hard to foresee. Goodyear’s acts demonstrate the “hero gene” – the desire to act selflessly in the face of danger Her acts serve as a reminder that there are still people who are ready to help other people at any time, and the parents of the kid she rescued are definitely thankful to her for her courage.
