Bob Newhart and Virginia “Ginnie” Quinn, his wife of nearly 60 years, had a romance fit for the big screen. Since it doesn’t appear like they will be splitting up anytime soon, it was a risk that so far paid off for the woman who made huge sacrifices for their family.
One of the longest-lasting relationships in Hollywood, Bob Newhart and his wife Virginia have been together for 59 beautiful years.
Given that nearly 50% of marriages in the United States end in divorce, this is an impressive accomplishment. Celebrity weddings have been known to end after only a few weeks, but for some reason, Bob and his wife have stuck by each other as they pledged, through good times and bad.
Bob and Virginia have been married for 59 years, during which time they have had four children and at least ten grandchildren. Details on his humorous marriage to his lovely wife, their kids, and grandchildren are provided here.
Because one of his friends, Buddy Hackett, decided that the man Virginia, who had been his babysitter, had been seeing, was not a good fit for her, Virginia introduced Bob to the lady who would become the love of his life.
Bob was promised that the late comedian would set them up on a blind date since he must have thought Bob was ideal. “We’re both Catholic, I suppose. She is 75 percent Irish. I am 75 percent Irish “Before disclosing what Buddy told him, Bob said:
“”I have a girl for you.” I’m going to set you up on a blind date since she is going out with another man, but I don’t think he is the perfect one for her. You’ll meet her, start dating, and eventually get hitched. When you have children, you will refer to one of them as Buddy.”
Which is what we did; we gave one of our girls the name Buddy, Bob continued. Virginia had a similar career to Bob in show business; her father, Bill Quinn, played Mary Tyler Moore’s father on the MTM program, so she had no shortage of skill.
She played a supporting role in a Jerry Lewis movie prior to marrying Bob, but she gave up acting following their 1963 nuptials. Before being married, she and Bob dated each other for a year.
However, she wasn’t too excited about “marrying an actor who didn’t earn a paycheck every week” during the start of their relationship. Nevertheless, he had always known that she would be the sole flower to grow in the garden of his heart.
“Yes, she was perfect. We enjoyed being with each other and had the same beliefs. She had everything I was seeking for because she had a terrific sense of humor, “said he.
Although her father did not exactly jump for delight at the notion of them together, the sentiment was mutual.
Virginia has served as her husband’s best friend and devoted supporter over the years, while he has served as her prince charming and shining knight in sparkling armor. Early in their marriage, he had to run to her aid on one occasion.
She was carrying their first kid at the time, so he chose to assist rather than make her go through the stressful process of getting it. Thankfully, Virginia called the shop in advance to let the cashier know he was coming for a bra.
The cashier remarked, “Bless his heart, he seemed quite uneasy in his own skin when he came through the door, tugging at the collar of his striped, short-sleeved shirt. When I walked up to him and gave him a comforting smile, his cheeks were flaming red.
“I wouldn’t be doing this if Ginny wasn’t pregnant and I didn’t love her,” he stated. The topic of conversation shifted, and the comedian eventually replied, “Well, I guess I’m lucky that she’s pregnant. She didn’t place any orders.
The cashier praised the couple for being “down-to-earth” and said she would never forget their conversation.
“The woman described them as a pleasant pair who got along well with “normal people.”
The duo can appear so normal that anyone who sees them would mistake them for an unrelated pair. Since they started dating, Virginia, the devoted wife, has been present for all of her husband’s significant victories. The stand-up comic claims that she has only infrequently missed any. He remembered: “She would be in the changing area. She would complain that the sound system was broken. Nothing could be heard by me. I remarked, “Honey, the sound system was fine. They remained silent!”
The couple enjoys a happy marriage, and their house is believed to be kid-friendly. Bob, who liked golfing, had to give it up for frequent walks with his wife, so their daily life is no longer as chaotic as it once was.
The two frequently meet Dick and Dolly Martin, Don and Barbara Rickles, and other Hollywood celebrities while attending a variety of events in Hollywood. Bob once jokingly said, “Somebody has to be Don’s friend.”
The comedian has grown quite confident in his capacity to make people laugh, even though he has reached an age where no one will hold it against him to retire. This is understandable given the strong and close-knit support system he has.
“I’m confident that I can always come up with an amusing story, he says. A dancer could fracture a leg. An artist could lose their voice. However, life will always be humorous, and I’ll always be able to pen comedies and sigh, “Yeah, I still have it.””
Since the couple has been married for so long, many people are understandably curious about how they manage to keep everything operating well.
She knows how to keep him grounded, and they were able to retain that dynamic, which is just one of the many reasons they’ve managed to stay happy.

Given his standing as a comedian, it only seems fair, but Virginia has been the inspiration behind some of the amazing accomplishments he is known for, which will please his followers.
An excellent illustration was the show’s irrevocable conclusion, “Newhart,” which debuted in the 1980s and lasted for eight seasons.
The iconic finale showed that Bob, who portrayed the innkeeper, had been dreaming the entire time, and he awoke in bed with Pleshette, his first on-screen wife.
Bob had given credit to his wife for the sequence when Mankiewicz questioned him about if that had always been the idea.
No, Newhart replied, “it was my wife’s idea. “The crowd went wild.”
Together, Robert, Timothy, Jennifer, and Courtney are Virginia and Bob’s four children. They also have 10 grandkids. their youngster,
Robert was born on November 4, 1963, and despite appearing in the 1993 film “Hearts and Souls” once, he has mostly kept a solitary life. In 1969, they had a second kid, Timothy, his brother, and themselves.
Like his brother, he has dabbled in show business and has worked as a production assistant on “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and his father’s program “Newhart.” Timothy may have had the potential, but he didn’t use it to advance his career.
Jennifer, their third child, was born in 1970, but unlike her older brothers, she chose not to pursue her father’s line of work. Occasionally, she has been spotted on the red carpet with her family, but except that, she is rarely seen.
Their fourth child, Courtney, was born in 1977. She is famous for working as a production assistant on the television show “George & Leo” in 1997. She only briefly dabbled in show business before giving it up to concentrate on raising her family.
Bob and Virginia have always been committed parents to their kids, and becoming grandparents did not alter that. The two enjoy spending time with their grandchildren, and Bob might be indirectly teaching his grandchildren some things.
Once he said: “Recently, my grandson successfully stood up. I enquired about it from him. He claimed that after telling one joke that was successful, he immediately tried another “Bob revealed. “That’s the secret, I said. To move forward, you must place one foot in front of the other.”
Bob and Virginia have enjoyed full lives, in fact; The comedian responded when asked if there was anything left on his bucket list:
“Strangely enough, I don’t believe I have a bucket list. I’ve pretty much accomplished everything I ever imagined doing or even didn’t think I would. I only want to make people laugh.”
Bob has declared he has no intention of ever retiring, which is fantastic news for his followers.
