84-year-old man learns to do his almost blind wife’s make-up as another way to express his love and make her happy…

He also does a great job, which is extremely sweet.

When Mona Monahan, of Waterford, Ireland, is put together and wearing makeup, she feels her finest.

However, her vision was deteriorating and would soon be completely lost.
Des Monahan, however, wanted to make sure that his wife always felt beautiful, regardless of whether she could see her appearance or not.

He therefore made the decision to learn her makeup technique in order to continue the daily ritual that had allowed her to feel like herself for more than 50 years of marriage.

Des explained, “I thought the sooner I learned the better because Mona’s eyesight is failing and she won’t be able to do her makeup in the future.”

He did more than just skim a few YouTube videos. Des registered for a few lessons at the nearby Debenhams store.

Rosie O’Driscoll, a makeup artist, met with the senior couple and demonstrated how to apply cosmetics to Des’ wife.
“When we went to the Benefit counter, I just took up the brushes and started asking Rosie to apply her makeup. We visit Rosie every day to see her so I can receive additional tips, and she has been a fantastic friend to us, Des said.

Even outside of their makeup classes, the pair now considers O’Driscoll to be a friend.
O’Driscoll frequently makes a tea break at the Monahans’ house.
“They are such a sweet couple, and Des enjoyed picking up helpful tips for Mona right away. He wanted to assist Mona in any way he could because it was clear that she was losing her sight, according to O’Driscoll.

Because I work in the cosmetics sector, I am aware that applying makeup each morning boosts one’s self-esteem and is also enjoyable. We laugh so hard when they approach the Benefit counter, but our friendship extends beyond Debenhams as well.

Des can now confidently use eyeliner, lipstick, and bronzer to dress up her entire face.

He is aware of the proper brushes to use and where to place each application.
Des uses lipsticks and eyeliners that I couldn’t possibly wear, remarked Mona. I now have trouble distinguishing between different hues of color, but because to Des, I now know that my makeup will always look amazing.

Des claims that he is now so comfortable applying makeup that he could possibly conduct his own workshops.

He is picking up a lot of fresh information. You can’t tell him that he sometimes uses a little too much force. He believes he knows everything, O’ Driscoll said.

Instead of just repeating the new routine, Des is even experimenting with a number of fresh looks.

He also prefers to use particular tools and products.
O’Driscoll remarked, “He has a preoccupation with the brows. He has switched to pencils. He prefers how Mona looks with the pencil.

“Des and Mona’s story demonstrates that new skills can always be learned, regardless of your age or gender.”
