For a mother in Utah who’s son and daughter-in-law are no longer able to conceive naturally, she’s found the perfect gift: she’s carrying their child and due to give birth to her own grandchild in November 2022.
Nancy Hauck offered to be their surrogate when she learned that her son Jeff and his wife Cambria were unable to carry another pregnancy after Cambria had a hysterectomy that saved her life. Vera and Ayva, who are 3 years old, and Luka and Diesel, who are 11 months old, are the two sets of twins that Jeff and Cambria had through IVF after experiencing difficulty becoming pregnant. Nancy stepped in because the couple was still eager to grow their family.
Nancy, 56, said SWNS, “I just had this sensation I should offer to do it a few months after that.”
I hadn’t even told my spouse yet when I told my son, who cried and expressed shock. However, he was quite encouraging.
Despite the fact that she hadn’t been pregnant in 26 years, her son Jeff was touched by his mother’s unselfish gesture and thankful that she was willing to bring a kid to term.
Jeff expressed his gratitude for having a mother who was so caring and selfless that she would make such a sacrifice for his family.
I understood how difficult the process can be and doubted that she could carry a kid for us, but I was really touched that she would even volunteer, he continued. “Having had over four years of infertility treatments, I knew how difficult the process can be,” he said.
However, Nancy’s late age raised questions about whether she could possibly become pregnant again, let alone carry a child to term. However, consultations with medical professionals quickly dispelled those concerns.
Doctors advised Nancy to become pregnant while she was still a viable gestational carrier, but she needed to do so before menopause set in. With the assistance of her husband Jason, 59, she then started hormone and fertility treatments at home. In February 2022, she underwent an embryo transplant.
“It was successful in 10 days,” Nancy told KSL News. It’s just so special to welcome another resilient baby girl into our family, she continued.
Nancy’s pregnancy was announced to the family in May 2022, and the baby girl was due in November.
Nancy told, “I never believed I would be pregnant at 56 or that this would be feasible, but it is the most lovely thing.” Cambria expressed gratitude to her mother-in-law to the same news station. Cambria added, “She is giving up so much for us and our family, and we just feel very blessed.” The woman continued, “They say pregnancy comes with a glow, but Nancy’s is a full-on lighthouse. She has been nothing short of amazing and filled with so much light and grace.
Nancy said that the family intended to have both Jeff and Cambria present in the delivery room when the baby girl is delivered in a video posted to Instagram.
There is no way to make up for something like that, said Jeff. I can only attempt to emulate my parents’ example and show my own family and other people the same kind of love and commitment, he continued.
Cambria struggled to find the right words to thank her mother-in-law for everything she had done for her and her family. Being a part of this adventure with her has been amazing. I will always be grateful.
