Actor Robert De Niro and actress Meryl Streep are two of the most well-known names when it comes to Hollywood icons. Each of them has had a very successful and long-lasting career, appearing in numerous movies throughout the years. As actors, they have each demonstrated how diverse they are by playing a number of parts in numerous pop culture phenomena.
The 1973 movie “Bang the Drum Slowly,” in which De Niro portrayed a baseball player who was terminally ill, and the following year’s “Mean Streets,” marked the beginning of a fruitful relationship between the actor and Martin Scorsese. The Godfather II, his subsequent collaboration with Scorsese, would solidify his legacy.
A few years later, “Taxi Driver” was released, and De Niro’s gruesome portrayal of vindictive cab driver Travis Bickle cemented his place in the Hollywood fraternity. Even now, references to his particular movie catchphrases—in particular, the “You talkin’ to me?” speech—can still be seen in television shows and motion pictures.
Regarding Streep, the actress is best known for her roles in theater productions and motion pictures. “The Devil Wears Prada,” “Julie & Julia,” “Into the Woods,” “Little Women,” and “Mamma Mia!” are some of her most well-known productions.
While De Niro and Streep have both achieved enormous success in Hollywood, they have also forged wonderful relationships, including a lovely friendship with one another! The established stars have openly expressed their love for one another, demonstrating how committed they are to maintaining their friendship at its highest level.
Legends in their own right, De Niro and Streep are. Although De Niro has starred in many movies, he told Parade in 2011 how he has learnt not to take stardom for granted. He clarified:
“Because it is so transitory, you must use extreme caution with all of that. If you get the chance to work and pursue your interests, like I have, I believe you should be grateful for the chance and seize it while you can because you never know when you might get another one.
The author of “Her Again: Becoming Meryl Streep,” Michael Schulman, referred to Streep as the “‘Iron Lady’ of acting” because of her reputation and accomplishment. And while De Niro and Streep have each achieved success on their own, they have also done so collectively.
They have been close friends for a long time. The Deer Hunter in 1974, Falling in Love in 1984, Marvin’s Room in 1996, and First Man in 2004 are just a few of the movies they have appeared in together. It seems like these two have collaborated virtually every decade! Therefore, it is not surprising that they have also expressed their gratitude to one another over the years.
Following Streep’s Golden Globe Award victory in 2017, her admirers and professional contemporaries expressed their gratitude for the actress. According to PEOPLE, she got the Cecil B. DeMille Award. De Niro, who received the same award in 2011, was deeply moved by Streep’s speech in which she discussed how upsetting it was to witness another famous person make fun of a person with a disability.
In a letter to Streep, De Niro stated: “I really liked what you said. You articulated it well and it needed to be said. You have my utmost respect for doing it while the world was praising your accomplishments. I agree with your views on bullies and punks. It’s enough already. With your grace and intellect, you have a strong voice that encourages others to speak up when they ought to in order for their voices to be heard as well. It is crucial that we ALL voice our opinions. We cherish you.
When De Niro reiterated his appreciation for the actress in 2018, Streep made sure to express it in kind. De Niro gave a heartfelt statement to his buddy as she accepted the Best Actress trophy at the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala, according to Entertainment Tonight.
He claimed that Meryl Streep was the most kind and giving actor. She not only plays her own role well, but she also enhances the personalities of everyone else on screen. “Meryl, thank you for speaking up on moral issues that concern us all,” the actor concluded. We appreciate you for playing the most intriguing roles with total dedication and without bias.
“Meryl doesn’t seem to have any flaws,” De Niro said as he wrapped up his remarks. And Meryl, I mean that with the utmost affection. You have my utmost love. Streep appeared to share this sentiment as she offered her benevolent buddy a warm hug and an unexpected kiss on the lips.
Even though there was nothing romantic about the kiss, it was obvious that Streep and De Niro loved one another very much and still do, and their friendship is still going strong.
