Nathaniel, the son of Karen Rodas and Paul Rybkin, only survived for 36 hours after birth.
He was born with polycystic kidney disease (PKD), a rare disorder that causes kidney cysts to form and can eventually cause renal failure.
The New Jersey couple welcomed Maddy in 2013, and she was born with the same illness as the family’s first child. However, after a two-year battle with the illness, Maddy was given a chance at survival thanks to her father.
Due to her illness, Maddy Rbykin’s stomach swelled, and for the first 18 months of her life, she spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital.
Maddy was doing fine despite the hospital trips, tubes, and oxygen treatments until her health began to decline.
Maddy was utterly exhausted, sleeping up to 18 hours per day, and frequently throwing up.
She might pass away, according to doctors, if a suitable kidney donor cannot be identified.
After being found to be a match, her father Paul was able to perform the vital surgery on his daughter.
My nerves were a complete wreck as two of my most precious beings, Paul and Maddy, underwent surgery, Karen said.
Both father and daughter are doing well, and the surgery was successful.
Karen continued, “Daddy’s kidney has saved our little girl.” “She has endless energy now. She is now a happy and healthy two-year-old with just a slight rounding of her once-massive belly.
A low-key Paul claimed he would have acted in the same way as any other dad.
We’ve been through a lot, but any father would have done what I did and given Maddy a kidney. It’s a requirement of parenting, he remarked.
Now that we can see Maddy develop into a joyful and healthy young girl, we are on a high.
In 25 years, Maddy will require a second kidney transplant, but to her parents, that seems like a “lifetime away.” Maddy’s adventure can be followed here.
