There are some love tales that appear to be predestined, and nothing can get in the way of them, not even a significant age gap. A wonderful illustration of a fairy tale romance is the relationship between acclaimed director Sam Taylor-Johnson, 55, and her husband, Hollywood actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 32. After ten years of marriage, they chose to repeat their vows in front of family and friends because it seems that their devotion only intensifies with time.

Sam Taylor, who was 42 and newly divorced, was getting ready to helm Nowhere Boy, her first feature picture. The two-time cancer survivor, however, didn’t feel anxious about making her directing debut. After experiencing the world of cancer, she remarked, “Taking on a movie is nothing.”
And Aaron Johnson was given the leading part in her film. This is how fate brought the 18-year-old actress and the mother of two together. As they started working on their movie, their love developed, and the rest is history.
The couple’s 24-year age difference may bother some people, but it was never a problem for them. I’m an old soul, and she’s a youthful soul, as Aaron already acknowledged. The director admitted that the young actor’s maturity drew her attention. She made the remark, “He was quite intense and utterly mind made-up,” in reference to her initial impression of him.
Aaron had known in his heart for a long time that Sam would marry him, and he didn’t want to wait any longer. Sam said, “We had never gone on a date, or even kissed, yet as soon as we ended, he informed me he was going to marry me.”
The couple announced their engagement in 2009, during the UK premiere of their movie. And it was in 2012, 5 months after having their second child together, that the duo said “I do.”
The newlyweds even decided to take each other’s surnames. The then 22-year-old actor explained his decision by saying, “I just don’t see why women need to take the man’s name.” He then added, “I wanted to be a part of her just as much as she wanted to be part of me.”
In addition to the two girls Sam already had from her previous marriage, the couple also had two daughters. When the director was 43, they had their first child. The young father-to-be admitted during the pregnancy that he wasn’t anxious because he had prior experience as a stepfather to Sam’s oldest children.
Aaron never misses an opportunity to compliment his kids’ mother and point out what a great role model she is. I mean, their mother is one of the most resilient, self-reliant women I know, he said.
It appears that as time passes, this exceptional couple’s love for one another grows stronger. They made the decision to repeat their wedding vows in June 2022 to commemorate their ten years of marriage and to express their continued love for one another.
“Yesterday was the most lovely day, summer solstice, our 10th anniversary […] We are blessed beyond comprehension,” the actor wrote on social media a day later. Sammy, you are my love, my life, my soulmate, my wife, and my universe, he said.
