Nick Tate was working at a Walmart in Newcastle, Oklahoma, as a cashier. Nick is known for being a chatty and outgoing cashier. He is always interested in and caring about his consumers. Even when a foster mother arrived with two young children and an infant.
On Friday night, Nick was working his evening shift when the incident occurred. “One of those days?” Nick simply remarked when the woman and her children approached him.
The woman was visibly concerned, and she didn’t want to cause any more delays in the line than she already had. Before pulling out a WIC card, she apologized to Nick. A WIC card is a federal program that provides food to new moms who are unable to feed their children due to financial constraints.
She then told Nick that she had never used a WIC card before and had no idea how it worked. Nick tried multiple times to swipe the card, but it didn’t work. It was clear that the woman had products that she couldn’t afford to pay for with WIC. That’s when Nick made a decision that most people would never consider. Nick was the one who paid for her meal.
The woman expressed her gratitude to Nick on Facebook.
In the video below, Nick explains his side of the story:
