His elderly parents have issued an ultimatum to their son, stating that he must comply with their unusual request within a year or face paying a large sum of money.
An elderly Indian couple in want of grandchildren has filed a lawsuit against their son and daughter-in-law, asking that they have a child within a year or pay them $US675,000 ($973,000).
According to the New York Post, Sanjeev Ranjan Prasad, a 61-year-old retired government servant, said it was an emotional and delicate topic for him and his wife, Sadhana Prasad, and they could no longer wait for grandkids.
Six years ago, the Prasads’ son, who works as a pilot, married.
“We want a grandchild or a granddaughter within a year or compensation,” Sanjeev told reporters on Thursday. “I have spent my entire life’s earnings on my son’s schooling.”
Prasad stated he spent 3.5 million rupees ($68,200) on his son’s pilot training in the United States.
“The primary issue is that we need a grandchild at this age,” Sanjeev explained, “but these people [my son and daughter-in-law] have an attitude that they don’t worry about us.”
“We got him married in the hopes of becoming grandparents someday.” It’s been six years since they tied the knot. It feels as if we have nothing despite having everything.”
According to media reports, the court accepted the aggrieved parents’ lawsuit and set a hearing for next Monday in Haridwar, Uttarakhand’s northernmost city.
Sanjeev stated that he and his wife enjoy having children.
“We aren’t getting love and affection from the places where we most need it,” he remarked. “I’m feeling extremely unfortunate.”
