People are only now discovering, or at least recalling, that Elon Musk and Amber Heard dated briefly in 2016, thanks to his recent comments in the midst of the ongoing trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp. Not only that, but following his breakup with artist Grimes in September of last year, the Tesla CEO has lately made news for his new relationship with Elvis actress Natasha Bassett. Oh, and did we mention that he and Grimes recently welcomed their second child together after their divorce?
If everything appears a little complicated, it’s because it is. But have no fear: we’ve compiled a complete list of Elon Musk’s partnerships from the late 1990s to the present.
Justine Musk, 1998
Elon and Justine (née Wilson) met at Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada, in the late 1990s. He invited her out for ice cream, according to a tale she penned for Marie Claire in 2009, but after initially saying yes, she changed her mind and left a note on his dorm room door stating that she couldn’t come.
Elon, though, showed up at her door later that night with “two chocolate-chip ice cream cones dripping down his hands,” according to the article, adding, “He’s not a man who takes no for an answer.”
After a two-year on-again, off-again relationship, the couple married in 2000 and had five sons together: one set of twins and one set of triplets. In 2008, the couple decided to call it quits.
Riley, Talulah, 2008
Musk met Westworld star Talulah Riley in a London club in 2008, and the two hit it off right away. The couple’s romance progressed swiftly, and two years after meeting, they married in 2010.
However, the couple split two years later in 2012, and Musk wrote, “It had been an incredible four years. I shall always love you. One day, you’ll make someone extremely happy.”
But the breakup didn’t last long, as the couple remarried in July 2013 before finally divorcing in 2016.
2016 Amber Heard
While there’s some debate over when these two first met, it’s widely assumed that they dated for around a year between 2016 and 2017, following his breakup from Riley and hers from Johnny Depp.

2018 Grimes
Grimes slid into her DMs when she made a joke about artificial intelligence, and the two got together in the true Grimes way. The duo made their red carpet couple debut at the Met Gala just a few weeks later, while the rumors were just getting started.
After he unfollowed her on Instagram for a few days, the couple was rumored to have broken up in March 2020. They proved everyone wrong, however, when they revealed in May of that year that they had welcomed their first child together.
As you may recall, the whole thing caused a bit of a stir because no one could pronounce their baby’s name, X A-12. They had to alter it to X AE A-XII in the end to conform with Californian legislation.
Despite the fact that the couple divorced in September 2021, they had their second child in December of that year. The daughter, dubbed Y, was born through a surrogate, allowing them to conceal the pregnancy until March 2022.
Natasha Bassett, present
Bassett, who you may recognize from Austin Butler’s upcoming Elvis film, has been linked to Musk since she was first seen exiting his private plane and driving away in a chauffeured Tesla earlier this year.
“We’ve been dating for several months and are currently in a monogamous relationship,” according to the couple. While that may appear to be an unusual pairing, another insider claims they’ve been on-again, off-again for years.
The source explained, “Elon and Natasha have been in an on-again, off-again relationship for a few years.” “I think their relationship is difficult, especially with him having the same on-again, off-again relationship with Grimes,” she says.
