According to media reports, a cat has escaped from a high-security jail in Sri Lanka.
Smuggling cocaine and cell phone SIM cards landed the felon in jail. On Saturday, jail intelligence workers captured the cat roaming within the high-security Welikada Prison, according to a Sri Lankan police official.
He said a little plastic bag tied around the cat’s neck contained approximately two grams of heroin, two SIM cards, and a memory chip.
The cat, however, managed to break out from its confinement, according to the Aruna daily. When jail officers came in to feed it, the four-legged drug boss allegedly fled via a fence.
The incident occurred on Sunday, and jail officials made no public statements about it. The cat smuggler’s photos and the story of its escape went popular on social media.
In recent weeks, the Welikada Prison has seen an increase in occurrences of persons tossing small quantities of drugs, cell phones, and phone chargers over the walls.
Sri Lanka has a serious drug problem, with some anti-narcotics officers being accused of selling confiscated substances.
The drug traffickers who trained the cat are said to be from the same organization that used to smuggle cocaine with an eagle. While animal capture is not mandatory in Sri Lanka, local media reports suggest that law enforcement hoped the feline would take them to the smugglers’ hideout.
