George the dog lost his Labrador best friend to old age over two years ago. Because the two had been together for twelve years, George was devastated when Blackie died.
His owner, Jacquie Litton, says he was so stricken with sadness that she wasn’t sure he’d be able to recover.
Things began to look up for George when he had an unexpected visitor on their home’s terrace one day. When George was lying in the backyard, a duck approached and took an interest in him. The duck approached George and nestled against him, and the two have been inseparable ever since.
“We have no idea where this duck came from,” Litton explains, “but he sure does adore George, and George has not cried once since the duck arrived.”
The duck follows George about like he’s the best friend she’s always wanted, and the two frequently snooze together. The duck followed him into the house, where she napped on George’s bed with him at her side.
“Since the duck showed up, he’s been fine,” Litton now acknowledges. He isn’t welcome in the house. He hasn’t complained.
He’s not going to meet you in the car, looking sorrowful.” It’s unclear where this duck came from, but the fact that she showed up during Blackie’s death anniversary week makes it all the more emotional for the family.
