Dogs are our dearest pals, and seeing them abandoned is heartbreaking. Without human assistance, they would be forced to exist in a world where they would have to fend for themselves.
Meet Bluebelle, a 9-year-old female Pit Bull who was found abandoned in an Austin parking lot. Her owners abandoned her with nothing except her bed to keep her company. She sat on the bed, anxiously waiting for someone to notice her.
Thankfully, she was discovered and the Austin Animal Center was contacted for assistance. Bluebelle looked up at the animal protection officers with gentle, mournful eyes and happily accepted snacks from their hands as they arrived in the parking lot.
“It’s tough to express how appreciative Bluebelle is to have been saved and brought to the shelter,” says Stephanie McCutcheon, the Austin Animal Center’s marketing and volunteer coordinator. Bluebelle drank a lot of water the first few days at the shelter and slept a lot in the air-conditioned luxury of her bed.”
Bluebelle had conjunctivitis in both eyes and was lacking fur and raw due to demodex mange, according to the caretakers. However, she is now receiving the necessary care at the Austin Animal Center. Despite her health issues, she does not allow them to bring her down or prevent her from enjoying life.
“She is in good spirits, despite her health challenges,” McCutcheon said. “She has the sweetest little smile and a spring in her step.” Our Animal Care workers and veterinarians have been taking excellent care of her.”
Bluebelle has a foster mother who is willing to take her in, which makes us pleased. She will return to her forever family, who will cherish her for the rest of her life after she has recovered.
“Her heart is still full, and she is incredibly friendly to humans,” McCutcheon said, despite her appearance. “Bluebelle recently had a meet-and-greet with a foster family and their dog, and everything went well, so she’ll be leaving the shelter shortly!”
