The Celia Hammond Animal Trust in East London rescued eleven baby cats last week after they were discovered in cardboard boxes sealed shut with strong tape.
As she passed by numerous cardboard boxes, a woman noticed the sad kitties and heard small screams coming from neighboring trash boxes. She instantly contacted CHAT’s rescuers for assistance.
Because the boxes were dumped in an alley near a busy road in Stratford, rescuers were afraid to open them and risk them flying out the road. They drilled a few small holes to allow air in but not enough for it to escape.
Rescuers went to a neighboring clinic and cut through the tape with a dull knife. The crates contained a total of eleven young cats and kittens. If no one had discovered them, they would not have survived more than an hour or two inside the suffocating enclosures.
These cats have made a full recovery and are now available for adoption. Many families have expressed interest in adopting the cats, and the shelter will evaluate potential adopters to ensure that all of them find loving homes.
