When Amarildo noticed used tires stacked in the parking lot of the supermarket where he worked two years ago, he knew he had to do something.
He had always enjoyed crafting handicrafts out of items that were no longer in use and were about to be dumped, so he was eager to put these old tires to good use.
When he noticed dogs and cats sleeping in old tires and using them as a sanctuary in the streets, he was inspired to start this activity. As a result, Amarildo decided to transform old tires into comfortable and attractive dog and cat beds.
He wants to give them a sense of belonging and help them feel more at ease.
He gathers and transports old tires that he discovers on the street or receives as contributions.
He carefully cuts, washes, paints, decorates and writes the name of the animal to whom the bed will belong after separating the tires.
Finally, he adds some carrying straps and a comfortable mattress for the animals to curl up on, which he sews himself.
He has created 6,000 beds for strays, shelter animals, and even pets after successfully building one. His beds have become so well-known since then that he now receives orders from eco-conscious pet owners all around the world.
He not only helped the environment by making comfy beds for animals out of used tires, but he also made some additional money from it. “I am quite affected,” Amarildo added, “because what was once rubbish in the environment has now become something very valuable for animals.”
