Dolphins are unquestionably the kindest oceanic species, but I had no idea these magnificent mammals could be so accommodating when swimming with horses. However, when this trainer took her two magnificent racehorses to the sea, they were approached by a group of friendly dolphins who swam alongside them. The woman videotaped the occasion, and it’s nothing short of amazing!
Charlotte Littlefield, a British racehorse trainer, moved her two lovely horses, Ivy and Costa, to the beach off the coast of Melbourne, Australia, where she now resides. The 33-year-old woman takes her horses to the shore on a regular basis because it helps them relax. This time, though, they were greeted with a once-in-a-lifetime surprise just after taking a plunge in the sea. In a spectacular encounter, they were joined by a pod of dolphins.
“Most mornings, we train at the beach… “It helps the horses relax and recover after rigorous workouts, similar to how professional athletes recover with ice baths,” Charlotte explained. “The dolphins appear on occasion and enjoy being in the company of horses, often attempting to play with them.
The dolphins’ appearance is even more encouraging for Charlotte, as folklore has it that seeing a dolphin before a race brings good luck to a horse!
“It’s supposed that if the dolphins choose to visit the thoroughbred, the racehorse will win its next race,” she explained. “As a result, when the dolphins come to visit, everyone gets very enthusiastic.” The bond you have with the two creatures is really special and lovely.”
