There are certain adoption stories that bring us greater happiness than others. For example, stories of individuals changing their minds at the last minute and choosing a senior pet instead of a baby, or stories of humans being picked and adopted by strays and taken in. And today, there’s a new type of story to add to the mix: pets who have been returned to shelters numerous times ultimately finding their forever homes.
We understand that pets being returned to shelters can be regarded as a reason not to take them in, because there had to be a reason they were returned in the first place, but this is not always the case, and we are grateful that you ever considered these lovely creatures in the first place.
These pets are sometimes re-adopted because someone adopted them when they shouldn’t have and now regrets it, or because they aren’t the friendliest, or because they have stress-related behavioral problems.
All of these things are things that can be improved and respected. These boys, for example. It took them some time to learn to trust their people, but they did so gradually.
