Nobody loves to be alone on Valentine’s Day, and this applies to both humans and canines.
That’s why Luke’s heartfelt disappointment when no one showed up for his Valentine’s Day celebration was so sad.
Luke, a stray mongrel, has lived at the Kent branch of Battersea Cats and Dogs for six months. He’s looking for a new place to live, but there hasn’t been much interest from possible buyers.
In the hopes of finding him a forever home, staff arranged a special Valentine’s Day celebration for the five-year-old to encourage people to learn more about him and possibly adopt him.
Luke, on the other hand, was left alone to celebrate the most romantic day of the year after no one showed up to meet him.
Luke has now been at the Kent branch of the organization for 206 days, more than five times the average Battersea dog.
‘Valentine’s Day is a time to show your appreciation for those you care about, so it’s heartbreaking to know that Luke would be spending the day without anybody to adore after no one came to meet him for a date,’ explains Michelle Bevan, center manager at Battersea Brands Hatch.
Despite his size, Luke is a giant softie who loves nothing more than cuddling up next to a radiator with his favorite humans and a cuddly toy.
‘We’re hoping that someone would adore him for the giant lapdog that he is and give him the chance to be loved as he deserves,’ said the family.
The reason for Luke’s extended search for love, according to the staff, is that he is a little insecure when it comes to forming relationships with other canines.
Luke, despite his stature, can be nervous at times and is searching for someone who can teach him how to be more self-assured.
Staff don’t know much about Luke’s past because he came to Battersea as a stray. So, while Luke enjoys being around people, he prefers to be the only dog in his new home due to his fears of other dogs.
