Phantom, a 6-month-old baby koala who remained at his mother’s side as she had life-saving surgery, captured this moment on camera.
A vehicle hit the mother koala, Lizzy, who suffered a collapsed lung and facial damage after being struck by it in Australia.
Phantom, on the other hand, was uninjured, and since he was so young, the staff decided it would be better to leave him with his mother.
Phantom sat on his mother’s neck, cradling her and giving her regular cuddles, and it seemed that his hugs were effective.
“Phantom is there for Lizzy’s treatments and check-ups to ensure that his mom is not upset,” according to medical workers, as reported by the ABC.
The Phantom is also placed in a “pouch” while weighing in order to ensure that he feels secure and protected when away from his mother.
