Akiko DuPont is a Tokyo-based freelance documentary photographer. She documents the life of her grandfather with the cat she brought for him, in addition to her many other interests.
When her sick grandfather was admitted to the hospital, everything changed for him. He lost his will to live once he was admitted to the hospital, and he became grumpier than ever.
Jiji, Akiko’s grandfather, was given a cat named Kinako at that time. Since then, the two have become friends and have been looking after each other. Kinako warmed Jiji’s heart and brought him great joy in his final days.
