Wild animals are capable of showing compassion and gratitude. Some people may have doubts about this. When they hear a realistic story, though, they will alter their minds. There is no other way.
And this story tells a very touching scenario. Dindim, a cute penguin, travels almost 8,000 kilometers every year to meet his savior and old human friend.
71-year-old Joao Pereira de Souza is Dindim the penguin’s friend from the outside world. They live on an island off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. He is a retired bricklayer and part-time fisherman who is now living on the island.
Dindim was rescued by him in 2011. The poor creature was starved and drenched with oil when it washed up on the beach.
The elderly guy didn’t think twice about bringing the penguin home and caring for it till it recovered its strength. He spent nearly a week cleaning its tarred feathers and feeding it fish. Pereira de Souza led Dindim to the sea when he was ready to return to his colony.
Dindim, on the other hand, did not go right away. For 11 months, the penguin lived with his rescued human and formed a particular attachment with him. He disappeared before he got a new coat.
The penguin miraculously returned. He wished he could see his human buddy again and thanked him for all he had done for him.
Dindim has swum nearly 8,000 kilometers from his birthplace (Argentina and Chile’s Patagonia coastlines) to see the man. He’s been doing it since 2011.
