You can never have too much of a good thing, they say. That may be true, but every now and again – just occasionally – you may require a vacation from it.

Rebecca May and her husband Alex are the fortunate owners of a very affectionate and loving cat.

10-year-old Ziggy adores her mother and father and desires to spend as much time with them as possible; she is constantly cuddling up to them and prefers to sleep in their laps.

While owning a warm and loving cat may sound like every cat lover’s dream, Rebecca and Alex have realized that too much affection and attention has a downside: it makes it difficult to get any work done.

Ziggy became increasingly clinging as Rebecca and Alex began working from home, and her continual desire for attention proved to be rather stressful.

Ziggy is always wanting to be near her best buddies, and if she isn’t nestled up in their laps, it’s because she’s positioned herself on their back, shoulders, or arms instead.

Rebecca discovered that Ziggy would not leave her alone with her work; in trying to get her attention, the clinging kitty would even layout on top of her laptop.

Rebecca and Alex both enjoy cuddling with their little furbaby, but they understood they needed to devise a strategy that would let them focus on their jobs while still ensuring Ziggy’s happiness.

And, after some trial and error, they devised a strategy that would satisfy all three of them.

Rebecca tried putting a cat bed on her desk to get a respite from Ziggy’s smothering shows of love, so Ziggy could lie down on the bed instead of on top of her laptop.
The cat bed, on the other hand, did not impress Ziggy.
Sure, it was comfy, but it lacked the calming effect of a warm lap and the delightful warmth of a laptop keyboard.

Rebecca and Alex quickly realized that if they wanted to fully satisfy their clingy kitty, they needed to devise a better strategy.

And, after some careful consideration, Alex devised the ideal strategy.

Because Ziggy enjoys cuddling up on their laps, the two decided to create her own “lap.”

Alex packed a pair of slacks to make them look like legs and finished the illusion with a pair of shoes on the bottom.

He packed the pants with a cushion to serve as the “belly,” and then he placed a heating pad inside the faux lap to make the bed even more inviting.

The seat now not only resembled a pair of legs, but it also gave the impression of body heat.

It was as near to the genuine thing as Alex could make it, but he was still unsure if his plan would work.

He assumed it would be a silly undertaking with no genuine outcome in the back of his mind.

Ziggy, on the other hand, adored it.

The feline got everything she wanted from the faux lap – except a real lap, of course.

According to Rebecca, their second cat, Harley, seemed uninterested in the creation, but Ziggy adored it.

She theorized that Ziggy felt “warm and safe” in her lap.

The couple does not intend to leave the faux lap up all of the time, but they see it as a useful tool for when they had a long day at work and need some alone time.

It ensures Ziggy’s comfort and happiness until his parents can provide him with a real lap to rest on.

Because, when they’re not working, Alex and Rebecca love nothing more than spending time with their amazingly sweet kitty.

After all, nothing beats snuggling up with a sweet little kitten at the end of a long day at work.
