Avis, a kitten, miraculously survived a 60-mile journey inside a rental car’s engine. Then, at an Ohio auto body shop, Avis found his forever home.
When someone dropped off a rented automobile for service at Firelands Collision Center in Norwalk, Ohio, auto body shop worker Garrett Frey got a big surprise.
The car was taken to the shop and left there overnight. The next morning, employees saw animal footprints on the floor but couldn’t figure out where they came from. One of the employees heard a meow the next day, and Frey followed a trail of footprints to a Kia Soul rental car. He discovered cat feces beneath the surface.
Frey heard weeping sounds as he approached the car. A lovely grey and white kitty greeted me when I opened the hood. Surprisingly, the two-month-old kitten had flown 60 miles from Cleveland-Hopkins Airport inside the hood. Frey and the other passengers in the car were also taken aback.
Toni Garbo of Firelands Collision Center says:
Garbo, Firelands, stated, “She was curled up near the shock mount under the hood.” The Sandusky Register stated that “the people who dropped off the automobile were startled she was there.”
“The guys adore her,” said Garbo. “She already has them wrapped around her paws and is incredibly adored and spoiled.”
Avis received standard injections and a clean bill of health after a trip to the veterinarian. They also discovered that the little princess was actually a little prince.
Thanks to donations, Avis now has a new bed, litter box, and toys at the shop. Then they decided Avis would live at the shop’s front desk, where he’d have lots of space.
Avis welcomes clients every day.
“We all simply thought he was kind of special and a cute little companion to meet customers,” Frey explained.
“Firelands Collision has been taken over by Avis the cat!! Ray is her companion for the day.”
