Ana, a kitten who spent weeks in a shelter, is on her way home. Ana’s adoption tale isn’t usual, as most kittens at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home spend only a few weeks at the South West London shelter. This adorable black kitten was born a little unusually. Her physical features, which included a cleft lip and a missing eye, worried shelter employees that she would never find a home. Ana, on the other hand, has found her family thanks to some great cat lovers.
Ana arrived at Battersea at the age of seven weeks in December.
Battersea has rehomed over 3.1 million pets in its 160-year history as a long-standing animal rescue. But they could see Ana was different right away.
Ana, who was born with a cleft lip, is not your typical kitten. Her right eye was never fully grown, and her upper lip is malformed. Ana’s eye needed to be removed and she needed to be more comfortable, according to Battersea vets.
Ana has a distinct appearance due to her missing eye and cleft lip.
In an age when practically every pet has its own Instagram account, Battersea workers were concerned that Ana’s appearance would not fulfill adopters’ expectations for a lovely new kitten.
Rachel Saunders, Battersea’s Cattery Manager, said,
“It’s really a shame that when people are looking for a new pet, they take animals at face value rather than looking beyond their appearance for unique peculiarities and personalities.”
Ana is also a black cat, which adds to her unusual appearance. Superstitions and myths about black cats make it difficult for them to find homes in animal shelters.
Ana watched as other kittens went to their new homes while the universe conspired against her. She was eventually placed in a foster home by Battersea. The staff at the shelter, on the other hand, was determined to help Ana find a family of her own.
Battersea began publicizing Ana’s cleft lip, delivering the message that “different” is beautiful.
Battersea eventually got the message they were hoping for after a piece about Ana appeared in the Wandsworth Times.
Ana’s luck has finally turned, a Battersea spokesperson told Cole and Marmalade. Because, once her incredible tale was told, she was adopted the next day!
