This is a one-of-a-kind kitten. Oscar the cat, according to the medical staff at Steere House Nursing Home, has an incredible intuition. They believe he only visits a patient’s room when they are on the verge of passing away.
Oscar, according to the nursing home staff, isn’t particularly nice, but he always appears when a patient is nearing the end of their life. He sometimes merely sits on their windowsill, and other times he’s found snuggled close to the sufferer in bed.
“We’ve found that when someone is dying, he will snuggle up on the bed almost to comfort that person,” Mary Miranda, the charge nurse, explained.
“Oscar has demonstrated the ability to detect a patient’s impending death and… is able to provide a touch of comfort to the dying, elderly residents of Steere House’s Safe Haven Advanced Care unit and their families who are dealing with the latter stages of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of end-stage dementia,” according to the official Steere House website.
The 10-year-old “wonder cat” is reported to have accurately “predicted” over 100 deaths in the advanced-care dementia unit where he has lived since he was a kitten.
“Physicians and nursing home employees consider his sheer presence at the bedside as an almost absolute indicator of impending death, allowing staff members to adequately alert relatives,” Dr. Dosa told Mirror.
Oscar’s presence is much appreciated by many patients and their families. Many people feel he is a miracle sent from the gods since he is a strong source of calmness and love in the most difficult of circumstances.
