When a feral cat gave birth to a litter of five kittens in Montana in 1987, the breeder found that one of them had unusually thick and curly hair, which led him to believe it was a mutation. Later, they discovered that she was the product of a spontaneous genetic mutation that made curly hair a dominant characteristic as a consequence of her environment. As a result of this discovery, the Selkirk Rex breed was established.
Unlike the Devon Rex and Cornish Rex, the Selkirk Rex has a significantly thicker coat with three layers of fur, as opposed to the Devon Rex and Cornish Rex. Please continue scrolling for photos of this adorable feline species.
