Ruuxa the cheetah and Raina the dog from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park tell their touching story.
These two gorgeous furbabies are the epitome of the phrase “best buddies forever,” and their story will bring a smile to your face.
The two were introduced to each other at a very young age and formed an instant friendship.
They became completely entwined. Raina was so devoted to Ruuxa that when it was discovered that his front limbs were not developing properly, she never left his side.
Ruuxa was born with a growth anomaly in his legs, it turns out. His front limbs grew in a bending shape instead of developing straight like any other cheetah’s front limbs would.
Ruuxa’s trainers were doubtful if he would ever be able to run again.
Ruuxa’s chances of being able to run were low until the zoo’s veterinarians got involved. They all agreed that corrective surgery was the best option, but who should be present during the procedure? Of course, it’s none other than Ruuxa’s devoted puppy companion Raina.
Throughout the surgery, Raina stood by Ruuxa’s side with devotion. She was adamant about not abandoning him. Then, during Ruuxa’s rehabilitation, Raina refused to be anywhere but at Ruuxa’s side once more. She was really patient with him and very careful with his bandages, which greatly improved his rehabilitation.
Ruuxa runs in the Zoo’s Cheetah Run today, reaching speeds of 70-75 mph, which is astounding in and of itself!
And who is running alongside? Raina, of course, his very own best fuzzy companion!
