For the last 22 years, Willie Ortiz, 76, has been feeding stray cats in Hartford. Despite rain, snow, and bitter cold, Ortiz, who gathers scrap metal to pay for the meals, has not missed a day. He feeds the cats and checks on their health every morning at 6 a.m., leaving his house with tins of sardines and cat food.
There are many wonderful people in the world, as well as many cats who need love and care. And it’s because of this that the world is a bit more pleasant.
Willie hasn’t missed a meal in 22 years, and he now looks after around 70 cats, feeding them every night and spraying and neutering them to keep the stray population under control.
Willie performs this in addition to his regular work, which requires him to gather and sell scrap metal in all weather, no matter how tired he is or how tough it gets.
After seeing some people disregarding a starving kitten asking for food, he began caring for the stray cats. Willie’s nightly regulars include Blackie.
More people like Willie are needed in the world; people who perform small acts of kindness on a regular basis to make our planet a better place to live.
