Living in constant fear of abduction and forced marriage is a way of life for most Ethiopian girls.
This time, however, things were different. A 12-year-old Ethiopian girl was on her way home from school. The kidnappers then surrounded her and grabbed her, pulling her away to an unknown destination. This, regrettably, comes as no surprise to the villagers, as such occurrences are common — tiny girls being kidnapped and married off.
The girl was saved by a miracle – a swarm of lions swooped down to save her. She had been imprisoned for around one week at the time, and the authorities had been unable to locate her. After many hours of observation, the animals surrounded the intruders.
Feeling scared, a group of men split up, leaving the girl alone. The animals sat next to her until the cops arrived and “guarded” her.
The fact that the lions sided with the girl and did not harm her is considered a miracle by the locals, as they generally attack people.
