Cats aren’t always the graceful, smart, and charming creatures we think they are, no matter how much they behave like royalty. And there are plenty of unpleasant cat images to prove it.

The Unflattering Cat Photo Challenge on Twitter invited all cat owners to post images of their cats doing strange and unphotogenic things, and the response was overwhelming. We’ve chosen some of the funniest photos from the flood of submissions.

We’re certain you’ll like them. They’ll show you that cats aren’t flawless, and they can even inspire you to tell your cat, “You aren’t the king of this house, and I’m not going to be pushed about anymore.”

Ingrid Johnson is the creator of Fundamentally Feline, a feline behaviorist and specialist. She claims that anybody who wishes to take a wonderful shot of their cat will get the greatest results if they photograph them in their natural habitat.

“Taking cats out of their homes for a photograph is one of the most common ways for things to go wrong. To encourage them to seem confident and alert, use natural light and play with them.”

To teach the felines to stare in the right direction, Ingrid suggested utilizing toys. “To persuade them to look at the camera, shake goodies, click, or make some other sound.

Working with what they’re naturally offering you rather than attempting to push anything is the key to keeping them calm.”

Lighting is “important in photography,” according to Karen Weiler, a pet photographer based in Toronto, Canada.

“As a result, set yourself up for success by relocating a favorite blanket, bed, or piece of furniture to a brightly lit area. If they prefer catnip, you may scatter some there as well. It’s fairly simple: if your cat likes to hang around there, you’ll have more chances to picture them.

They’ll be at ease and pleased, and you’ll have plenty of light—it’ll be a winning combination!” Karen provided some helpful tips for those of us who desire to capture better pictures of our kitties.

She also mentioned that felines respond to movement more than sound, so you may entice them with various toys and movements.
