Marie got a little laundry basket in the mail one night in late January of last year, which held a tiny cat inside of it. He was coated in his own urine and excrement, and fleas were crawling all over him. The small kitten, which weighed just under 2 pounds and was paralyzed, was now in safe arms. He was afraid, so Marie scooped him up and snuggled him close to her, giving him the nickname Charlie.
The fact that Marie hadn’t before cared for a crippled kitten meant that she didn’t know what to expect from him in the future. The fact that Charlie was in severe discomfort and couldn’t use his rear legs did not detract from his bright and energetic personality.
Following a visit to the veterinarian, it was advised to Marie that he be put down. However, she hesitated to do so in that moment since she understood that euthanasia was not the best option for him at the time.
She transported him to the hospital’s emergency room, where the doctors determined that he might be saved. Unfortunately, the cost of Charlie’s operation was between $10.000 and $12.000, so Marie set up a GoFundMe page and began spreading Charlie’s story. Within 24 hours, she had gathered more than enough money to cover the cost of his surgical procedure.
He underwent his operation a few of days after that. Marie was relieved to see such significant improvements in him. He was able to walk again on his own two legs and explore the surrounding area, discovering everything. He was really driven.
Since adopting Charlie, Marie has taken in a large number of kittens that were in need of love and care. Charlie was formerly a paralyzed kitten, but he has since learned to walk on his own two legs and has been adopted as a foster father. With the help of other special needs cats, he has become a major source of inspiration and motivation for them.
‘Without Charlie’s encouragement, I don’t believe I would have had the courage to pursue my passion of animal rescue.” “I am very grateful that I was able to accept him as a patient,” Marie expressed gratitude.
