Hannah Rountree’s pet cat, Spunky, disappeared when she was twelve years old. Hannah and her family were on vacation when the family’s gorgeous black and white house cat ran away. The search for Spunky ended in failure, despite their best attempts to track him down and rescue him.
Hannah was understandably deeply grieved, but the loss of Spunky sparked her passion for animal rescue and rehabilitation. Hannah wanted to help at her local animal shelter when she was a little older.
What happened next was completely unexpected by Hannah, who was then 15 and working her second shift at the Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center.
When Hannah visited the shelter, she couldn’t help but be pulled to a certain black and white cat in particular. In the shelter’s catio, the cat had just been surrendered and was being cared for. Naturally, there are many cats that appear same, but there was something unique about this one.
After some inquiry, the shelter’s staff was able to verify that the feline in question was, in fact, Hannah’s beloved childhood cat, Spunky, who had been surrendered. Hannah was overjoyed to have her closest friend back in her arms after three years apart, and she couldn’t believe how destiny had brought them back together again.

Spunky had been renamed Bear after he had been surrendered to the shelter as a stray. He was promptly adopted, but the relationship did not last, and he landed up back at the shelter – just in time for Hannah to come across him and save him!
