Working from home has a number of benefits. For example, you will be able to spend far more time with your pets than you would otherwise be able to. You may find that your pets are too enthusiastic to respect your working hours or your personal space. This was exactly the case when Chief Meteorologist at WFIE-TV Jeff Lyons went his home to report live from there.
Even if many of us were confined to our homes, it was still useful to know what the weather was like. As a result, weather forecasters were continuing to operate from their homes. Lyons’ weather forecasts were a little unusual from the norm since, among other things, he allowed his cat, Betty, to participate in the broadcasts.
Jeff Lyons had to set up his new studio in his dining room because of social distancing regulations.
“Working from home has been an exciting experience. In the dining room, I’ve set up my studio with a green screen and lighting. Following the late news, it’s good to have a 30-second commute,” he explained. ” He only realized this after his gorgeous cat, who was insistent on becoming a part of the show, revealed herself to him as an aspiring weather forecaster too. It turns out that people enjoyed her presence!
The director asked to see Betty, so I hoisted her up for the camera during a weathercast while she was hiding beneath the dining room table. We only had 30 seconds left to complete the weather, so I held her in my arms just for fun…little did I know what was in store for me!”
Ever since Lyons made her debut appearance, the number of people who tune in to his programs has grown steadily.
Some viewers come from as far away as Europe and Australia, indicating that it is not the weather forecasts that they are particularly interested in.
“The outpouring of support for this goofy cat has been incredible,” Lyons said. In my previous career as a meteorologist, I spent 34 years establishing a name for myself in this area (southern Indiana). However, this is something that has completely taken me by surprise!”
Upon being questioned about how Betty came to be adopted, Lyons explains that his family was selected by her. “Betty was just 11 years old when she first appeared on our windowsill. My daughter, who was ten at the time, begged me to let her stay with us. “I’d always had cats growing up, so it was a no-brainer for me, plus I’m a softie!” I said.
